Why does ANTI-FREEZE have a 'sweet-smelling' and 'sweet-tasting' aftertaste? (for animals)?

No one really chose the flavor or smell for antifreeze. It just turns out that ethylene glycol (the most common primary ingredient of anti-freeze) has those properties.
