How do I get the right color using RIT dye for clothing?

I bought some Navy Blue (dark) to try to re-color some dark jeans that have faded and they turned more purple that blue. Someone told me you have to use Navy and Black to get a dark blue. Does anyone know how many oz of each color will give me a very dark blue?
